Don't Bring Me Flowers
By Lori Williams
Note from author:
I wrote this poem because I often see how the
elderly are all but ignored in our society. They
are "put up with", "humored" or "tolerated", not
only by strangers, but by the very people whom
they mothered and fathered, their sons and
daughters, grandsons and granddaughters. It
makes me so sad when I hear friends say "Oh,
I can't stand my mom anymore, she's so old and
can't remember anything... what a pest!". I want
to shake them and yell, "No, No! Love her with
all your heart while she's here... for me... please".
My father passed away when I was 13, my
mother when I was 20. I still miss them every
single day and would give anything to have
them here bestowing their gentle wisdom upon
me. So please... love them now, before it's too late.
Don't Bring Me Flowers
Though they are lovely,
their scent heavenly,
splendid in all their bouquet;
Don't bring me flowers
after I'm gone -
show me you love me today.
What good will they do
caressing a stone,
though pretty, their meaning I'll miss;
Express to me now
you're thankful I'm here,
give me a hug or a kiss.
My age has crept up
have wrinkles aplenty,
my good years behind me, at best;
but wisdom and spirit
I'm happy to share,
indulge now - before I'm at rest.
Once just like you,
with nothing but time,
all plans for the future could wait;
My future is Now,
my time almost done,
so love me before it's too late!
Don't bring me flowers
after I'm gone,
show me you need me today;
so happy you'll make
this lonely old heart -
you might just convince me to stay!

REQUESTS:
From: Mtujar@aol.com (Jessica)
In December, I was blessed with a new baby cousin, his name is Ben. But he is really very sick. He was born on the 29th and still in the hospital. He has a condition where his nerve ending did not completely develop in his lower intestine and bowel. He has already had one surgery and could possibly face another. I would also like prayer for my other cousins, this baby was concived in an affair and their mother seems to reject them. They need a lot of prayer right now. One more thing, I am going to have a second child this August, and am experiencing severe morning sickness. Sometimes I can't eat anything for days, medicine won't help me because I can't keep it down either. I am excited about the baby, but would love to feel a little better.
Thanks,
Jessica

Michael,
I ask for prayer for a cousin of my husband. I can't go into detail right now but there is a battle going on in this fellow's mind. Paranoia is but one of the problems. Please keep him in prayer. About all I can tell you right now is that this is a very serious request. Anyone that can get a prayer through to God is asked to pray for this young fellow.

We are people of peace and a supporters of democracy. Right now the
Philippines is experiencing one of the most difficult turmoil of all. We've
been faced with the outmost treason of all from the people we have entrusted
our lives with... the 11 senators who voted for an acquittal of the most
corrupt power in our nation's history. I ask dear readers for your prayers
and a hope that those in power would listen to a nation's cry. May they be
enlightened by our Good Lord into thinking straight and to set aside
partisan politics. Please pray for our whole country. I dont need any
assurance... just your prayers for i know God will prevail. Thank you.

"I thought of you first after my family sat down to watch the video we gave
them. They loved it, to say the least! Within thirty seconds my mom was
crying and my dad did too. They said it was the best Christmas gift we could
have given them!! You did such a beautiful job! They were so surprised and so
touched---they really, really, really loved it. Thanks for helping to make it so
special to us all. My mom mentioned how the songs were perfect for the
video too! Thanks again!"
