Today's poem is by a very, very special young lady in my life,
Trisha K. LaCoste, or Trisha Lippincott as she was known before she got
married. I was so thrilled when she sent me this poem, as I had
no idea that Trisha was a writer. However, as I think about it now, it shouldn't
have surprised me in the least bit! Trisha is one of the most gifted people
I have ever known...
I happened to find a letter of recommendation that I wrote for Trisha
some years ago, that was still on my computer. I believe it was for
her admission into the Focus on the Family Institute. I have included
it here so that all of you may see just how special she is...
We love you Trisha, and miss you dearly!
Michael and Kristi

Dear Sirs:
For as long as I've known Trisha Lippincott, she has been a unique
individual. Besides being her high school basketball coach, I have worked
with Trisha through Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and have gotten to
know her and her family on a personal level.
Trisha has always been someone her peers have looked to as an
example and her tremendous character draws them to respect and
emulate her. Whether it was in a sports contest or in a simple social
setting, her ability to lead and influence those around her was obvious.
She lives her Christianity out in full view of those she comes into contact
with, without being overbearing or threatening, and she has always made
those around her feel comfortable. I have seen her share her faith with
those who had been turned off by other "Christians" who did not live
what they believed. Trisha has many leadership qualities, which can
be refined and molded into a very effective tool for God.
One of the qualities I feel a leader must have is the ability to be a
follower when the situation demands. As a coach, Trisha was one of
the most coachable athletes I have ever had. She listened attentively,
put into action everything she learned, and kept the team working hard
even during those times when the team didn't think a coach was looking
their way.
Trisha was also a "sponge" when it came to FCA meetings, as she
thirsted for knowledge about God and put what she learned into practice
in her every day life.
I believe that Trisha can be comfortable in any situation she is put in
as she easily switches from leader to someone who acknowledges
another's ability to lead, and accepts any role she is given.
Overall, Trisha is one of the most admirable young ladies I have ever
come into contact with. While not perfect, and who is, she has
so many God-given abilities that can be used to further God's glory here
on earth. She would be a total asset to have at your institute, and would
be the kind of person who would go from there and represent the ideals
that she has learned in a most powerful way.
I will leave you with this. I have two young sons, and Lord willing I will
have a daughter someday, and I can only hope that she turns out half as
well Trisha Lippincott.
Sincerely,
Michael T. Powers

Let Me Watch You, Daddy
By Trisha K. LaCoste
Let me watch you, Daddy
As you dribble that big ball.
Show me how to shoot,
And teach me what the refs will call.
Let me watch you, Daddy
As you strum that nice guitar.
I know if you keep practicing
One day you'll be a star.
Let me watch you, Daddy
As you putt up on the green.
I know you'll make it in the hole,
'Cause you're the best I've seen!
Let me watch you, Daddy
As you hug my mommy close.
I know you love her too, Daddy,
But I love her the most.
Let me watch you, Daddy
As you live your life each day.
Share with me the things you've learned,
And teach me how to pray.
Let me watch you, Daddy
In everything you do.
Let me watch you, Daddy,
'Cause I want to be like you!

I am so deeply saddened to announce the passing of Tanner Chase Smith today (Saturday) just a few minutes ago, approximately 5:15 p.m. CST.
Tanner was the first and only child of Daniel and Janell Smith of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, grandchild of Sonny and Joanne Rasmussen and Floyd and Evelyn Smith. He is survived by his loving parents, grandparents aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
Today we have all lost a baby who always had a smile, who's eyes lit up a room and, in the words of his mommy, was a "million dollar baby" to the end. He was always a joy to be around. Thank God his suffering is over and he is with the angels.
Please pray for Tanner's family as they face their future without him. This will be a most difficult road.
There will be an official announcement and a photo of Tanner posted for all here on the journals very soon by Vicki.
Thank you all for your unfailing support of Janell, Dan and especially Tanner during this horrible ordeal. Please continue to pray for them and for all who loved Tanner. They will need every prayer.
Tanner Chase Smith

"I thought of you first after my family sat down to watch the video we gave
them. They loved it, to say the least! Within thirty seconds my mom was
crying and my dad did too. They said it was the best Christmas gift we
could have given them!! You did such a beautiful job! They were so
surprised and so touched---they really, really, really loved it. Thanks
for helping to make it so special to us all. My mom mentioned how
the songs were perfect for the video too! Thanks again!"
