Ron
By Dan Clark
Ron was a fifteen-year-old teenager, a tenth-grade
student at Granger High School. It was game day, and he was
the only sophomore suiting up with the varsity team.
Excitedly, he invited his mother to attend. It was her very
first football game, and she promised to be there with several
of her friends. The game finally ended, and she was
waiting outside the locker room to drive Ron home.
"What did you think of the game, Mom? Did you see the
three touchdown passes our team made and our tough defense,
and the fumble on the kickoff return that we recovered?" he
asked.
His mother replied, "Ron, you were magnificent. You
have such presence, and I was proud of the pride you took
in the way you looked. You pulled up your knee socks eleven
times during the game, and I could tell you were perspiring
in all those bulky pads because you got eight drinks and
splashed water on your face twice. I really like how you
went out of your way to pat number nineteen, number five
and number ninety on the back every time they came off the
field."
"Mom, how do you know all that? And how can you say I
was magnificent? I didn't even play in the game."
His mother smiled and hugged him. "Ron, I don't know
anything about football. I didn't come here to watch the
game. I came here to watch you!"

From the E-mail Box!
To Michael, all the readers of SFTH and anyone else wanting a great past time:
I have been blessed to know Michael for less than one year. We met at a volleyball tournament in Beloit, WI last summer. He approached me and asked if I would be interested in playing with him in the future. Little did I know at that time how fortunate I would become to have met him. So when he came up to me last Thursday and gave me a copy of his new book, Straight From the Heart; "A Celebration of Life", I was delighted and very excited. Being a mother myself, I looked forward to reading up on his fatherhood experiences. I was not, however, prepared for what happened when I opened the book and began to read. I CANNOT PUT IT DOWN!!!! I find myself engulfed in every sentence, feeling his fears, his joys, his sorrows and especially his fatherly love. His stories are wonderful. With every one, I come away with a new look on patience, ability to laugh at oneself, honesty, trust, companionship, understanding, and most importantly, a rekindled appreciation of my three-year-old daughter, Holly. With daily schedules and deadlines and chores and "to do" lists, sometimes my little one gets pushed aside without me even noticing. Michael's stories make me laugh, and cry, and then I put the book down to do exactly what he says I should: LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST!! PLAY WITH HER!! DANCE WITH HER!!! EAT GOURMET MEALS FROM A TABLE TENNIS RACQUET AND A BROKEN STICK WITH HER!! NEVER LET A MOMENT PASS WITHOUT KNOWING THE WONDERFUL GIFT GOD HAS GIVEN ME!!!!! I cannot say it enough!
BUY the book!! RENT the book!! BORROW the book!!! But I'm sorry. You can't use mine. I have promised it to quite a few of my own friends when I am finished. God bless and enjoy!

Thought For The Day:
"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small
people always do that, but the really great people make you feel
that you too, can become great." --Mark Twain
Verse for the Day:
"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."
Psalm 1:1
Kid's Thought For The Day:
"Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets kicked."
Parent's Thought For The Day
"My father used to tell me, 'When Abraham Lincoln was your age,
Abraham Lincoln had a job. When Abraham Lincoln was your
age, he walked twelve miles to get to school.' I said, 'Dad, when
Lincoln was your age, he was President, okay?'"
-- Andy Andrews
Coach's Thought For The Day
"Iron rusts from disuse; water loses its purity from stagnation and
in cold wither becomes frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigors
of the mind." --Leonardo da Vinci
Deep Thought For The Day:
"When my grandparents arrived in this country from Germany,
they were dirty, frightened, and penniless. I swear, that's
the last time we let them vacation by themselves."

REQUESTS:
Dear Michael, My boss's uncle is 38 years old and has been in the
hospital with a heart problem that doctors say he must have had since
childhood and was not found until recently. There is no cure for this
and the doctors told him and the family yesterday that all they can do
is keep him comfortable until God takes him. He told them he wanted to
go home and he did. Please pray for this young man and his family as
they go through this waiting. Until now, he has never been seriously ill
and had never been in the hospital. That is the reason the family is in
such shock over this. Thank you,
Judy

"I thought of you first after my family sat down to watch the video
we gave them. They loved it, to say the least! Within thirty seconds
my mom was crying and my dad did too. They said it was the best
Christmas gift we could have given them!! You did such a beautiful
job! They were so surprised and so touched---they really, really,
really loved it. Thanks for helping to make it so special to us all.
My mom mentioned how the songs were perfect for the video too!
Thanks again!"
