Mike,
I want to thank you and Kristi from the bottom of my heart for having everyone send such awesome birthday wishes. I loved sharing the messages with my little ones, and Brittany thought it was especially cool to see on a map where everyone was from!! The readers of Straight From the Heart are so kind and generous! Thank-you for a wonderful birthday surprise!! Jazz ___________________________________________________ Woman of Simple Faith
By George Prins
Her life began with a disadvantage. Whether she received it at birth or in early childhood, no one remembers but some say that because of a fall, she became physically and mentally handicapped. Her younger and older sisters, Martha and Joyce, were her source of encouragement as she coped with her disadvantage, helping her to learn how to walk and do life's simple chores. Before she was 10 years of age, however, she was instrumental in saving her younger brother, Jack, from drowning. Perhaps it was because of this and her innocent joy, she became 'daddy's girl' to father Turkstra. He died just after she was married and because of the loss of this wonderful father, her marriage to a traveling vendor with grade education, and alas, her young family of 5 children (a set of twins included) under the age of 5, she turned to Abba, her Heavenly Father, for guidance and care. She could not do it on her own. She loved being young at heart and often, with the attraction of her lemon pies, many young people would come over and and fill the house with laughter. This is what she enjoyed. How she coped with her oldest and only son, biking 30 miles alone when he was 12 or later, as a teenager, hitch-hiking across thousands of miles each summer, I do not know. Yet, I am convinced she may have prayed for each mile I was on the road. There are those that believe one should discover who they are, realizing their potential as they study and encounter nature and God. "Have faith in yourself," they would say. I am convinced that my mother would not have the capabilities to do this. Having only grade 3 potential, not being able to read a book, unable to participate in regular conversation or share in a Bible Study, nor drive a bicycle or car, she would be at a disadvantage. I am proud to say that my mother is a woman of simple faith in God. I have said many times that if it were not because of her prayers for me, I would not be writing this, nor would I be here. She has taught me, as a man, to freely say words like, "I love you," and "I miss you." My mother will turn 83 years of age on August 28 and she has said many times that she longs to be able to have God take her by the hand and lead her into Heaven's glory when her time comes. I know she is ready to meet her Creator and I also know God will give her full use of her new mind and body when she arrives Home. I thank my God for this 'woman of simple faith'. PS On my mother's fridge is a picture of 3 sisters, over 80 years of age, sitting in a hot tub. Martha, Joyce and my mom continue to visit each other regularly, encouraging and sharing the good things God has given them. George Prins

I live very close to Niagara Falls, in Ontario, Canada. I enjoy my family, running, meeting people, playing piano/pipe organ, trumpet and writing. I believe that whatever we do should be to the glory of our Creator.

From the E-Mail Box:
I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how much I appreciate your
letter and stories everyday. A Christian friend of mine told me about you and then the next thing I knew I was getting you everyday on my e-mail. I can hardly wait to read my e-mail each day. The main reason I am writing you is to let you know how much you are
blessing me and my parents. I am a full-time caregiver for my two ailing parents in their home. I wanted them to be able to stay in their own home for as long as possible. Mom has had two strokes in 1996 and quadruple heart bypass in April 2000.
She is severe diabetic and diabetic blind. She can barely get around anymore, but has a wonderful attitude. She is a retired school teacher. Dad is dying from a lung disease. He also has Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
He, too, is nearly blind and deaf, and is diabetic. He is a retired minister. I say all this to let you know how little they can do for themselves. So -
I print out your letter and stories and read it to them. They love it and look forward to it each day. It is one our special family times that we spend together. You have a terrific ministry. Thank you for blessing our lives so richly.
God Bless You. Cheryl

REEQUESTS: I would like for you to remember these 2 young men in your prayers:
A 21 year old young man has lost 1 leg with cancer. Now they are finding more tumors in one lung. 3 of the 4 were not maglinant, praise the Lord. Now they are going into his other lung and see what they find there. His name is Phillip. The other young man is 29 years old, married about 2 years with a small
baby. He has an inoperable brain tumor. He is a christian and needs the prayers of other christians. Dear Precious Prayer Warriors;
I received a phone call this morning requesting urgent prayer for a 12yr old girl. Her grandparents called this morning and are trying to get as many as they can to pray for Angela Duncan. Angela was in a bad car wreck this weekend. She has extensive injuries on her face, bruise on her brain, possible permanent eye damage, and many more injuries. Angela is a Christian. Her grandfather Clarence Duncan is reaching out to the Family of God on the behalf of Angela. (Bro. Duncan and his wife have been faithful Servants for many years at The Baptist Church, in Indpls, Bro. Tommy Long was their Pastor for years before the Lord called Bro. Tommy home.) Angela's Father was killed in a car accident 10 yrs ago. The family has been through this valley before. They are very strong in the Lord, but this is definately trying their faith. The family is asking for prayers from individuals and also if you will
put Angela Duncan on your church prayer list. On behalf of the Duncan Family, "Thank You for Your Prayers." James 5:16......The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. ___________________________________________________

Thanks for helping to make it so special to us all. My mom mentioned how the songs were perfect for the video too! Thanks again!"
