They loved it, to say the least! Within thirty seconds my mom was crying and my dad did too. They said it was the best gift we could have given them!! You did such a beautiful job! They were so surprised and so touched--they really, really, really loved it. Thanks for helping to make it so special to us all. My mom mentioned how the songs were perfect for the video too! Thanks again!" Kelli-- College Station, TX _________________________________________ Directions by Bob Perks Bob@BobPerks.com I hate to ask for directions. I know you are thinking it's a "guy thing." Perhaps. But I hate to ask because most people don't know how to give them. We visited the beautiful town of Bloomsburg last weekend. Marianne and I walked down main street, stopping in many of the unique shops along the way. We were just browsing. In no hurry at all. Then I thought I'd ask where the local S.P.C.A. was located. We needed our fill of dogs since our Daisy had left a hole in our lives big enough to drive a truck through. Dreading this, I took a deep breath and asked the clerk in the shop we were in at the time. "Can you tell me how to get to the SPCA?" "Oh sure, where are you coming from?" she said. Immediately I knew this was going to be a challenge. Forgive me, but I'd classify that as a stupid question. "From here?" I replied with a smile. She then proceeded to give me directions and stopped at least three times saying , "Well, no it's not exactly that way." Keep in mind we are in Bloomsburg, Pa. "Okay, I can't tell you how to get there from here, but let's say you were in Danville," she said. I found out that the SPCA was between here and Danville. She could only tell me how to get there if I were coming from Danville not from where we were standing. So in order for me to get there with her directions I'd have to drive past the place and start from Danville and work back. "Excuse me for a moment," she said. The phone rang. I was grateful. I tried gracefully walking out of the store when she spotted me. "Wait! Permit me to finish." She then spotted an older man and said, "Sir, could you tell this man how to get to the SPCA?" "Oh, sure," he said. "It's easy." Not so far. Then, with his hands flying all over the place, began to give me directions. He was very visual. As he spoke his hands indicated every intersection, sharp right, stop and hill. Suddenly in frustration, he stopped cold. "Come here. Step outside. It will be easier for me to tell you," he said. Then started all over again. It was easier because he could now see the road, Main Street, and was able to visualize it better. I stopped listening about fifteen minutes into this. I had discovered the general direction and that's all I needed. But that's not all he wanted to give me. It's a quirky thing. Most people who give directions tell you, then after saying thanks to them, they repeat everything one more time. Through the years I have figured out why. That last repeat of the directions is just a conformation in their mind that what they told you was accurate. That part is ultimately for them. But I stand there anyway and let them do it. "Thank you sir. Boy, you really didn't leave out a detail. It was very helpful and I must say entertaining watching your hands dancing around. If only someone could direct me through my life like that," I said jokingly. "That's what God is for," the old man said smiling. "His directions are in the Bible." "Yes, but He only tells you once and He doesn't use His hands," I said. We both laughed. Oh yes, I got lost on the way there and had to stop and ask for more directions. Just like in life and my relationship with God. "I believe in You!" We were convinced that it was God 's work because of the strange way it came about(which I won't go into.) She has been here one month, and we have relived our girl scout days when both our mom's were our leaders, and went through our school days etc., Last night she came over to tell me she has ovarian cancer and is entering the hospital for surgery. The tumor is large, and the doctors don't know how far advanced it is. Please say a pray for her as she goes through this. Her surgery is Thursday, May 2. Her name is Margaret Boone, and she loves God. She says she is ready to if that is God's will, and I know she is a true Christian.
